i'm sure we've all read/heard abt the nyp sex video scandal involving a 17yr old girl... i'm just trying yo understand what Straits Times is trying to achieve by publishing this story. i feel the poor girl is being victimised... k, to all those who see this girl as a cheap slut or 'loose' or deserving of such humiliation since she agreed to be taped, i ask u'll to hold on to ur horses. Yes, she shud have known of the risk of the video being leaked. yes, she was dumb to store it in her hp. yes, she shudn't be engaging in such acts at this young age. But, give her a break, she's 17! at such a age, teenagers are barely grasping the concept of consequence. adolescent is the period of time, when we learn, albeit the harsh way, the repercussions of our actions; the 'shud haves' and the 'shudn't haves'. So here we have a 17yr old girl making, arguably, the worse decision of her life. One that will definitely change her life and the lives of her family and frens. And what does ST do? they publish the story, knowing that if the story was true they'll be ruining a young girl's future. seriously, y publish? cuz its a story that'll definitely get reader's interested? pls... leave that to the tabloids... its simply irresponsible.. talk abt consequence and repercussions. It didn't help that they published really detailed information like her first name, the course she's studying in, her cca etc.. info dat could hav been left out.. furthermore, according to reports, the video was stolen by a jealous 'fren' out to tarnish the girls reputation. ok, even if it weren't true.. y would ST wanna be a potential facilitator for slander and smear campaigns? instead of containing the situation by opting not to publish, ST have blown it up. How is this girl goin to recover from the shame? hey, she's no paris hilton. i doubt she enjoys the limelight. Thank you ST, for making her road to recovery alot more tough. kudos. yes, go ahead and punish her further. pls, condemn her life... we mite as well abolish juvenile courts etc.. kids these days don't deserve a second chance. rite ST?
